My Treatment Plan Has Changed with My Depression

"Don't feel like you have to be stuck with one medication or one doctor because there are options and you need to find what fits and helps you."

Transcript

I think when it comes to psychiatrists, just like with medication, you kind of have to test things out to see what fits. And something that worked really well for me is not staying with the same doctor for years and years at a time. Some of my peers who have depression also have the same psychiatrist a long period of time. To me that didn't work, because as I grew so did my depression and I needed to learn how to deal with it in different ways.

The last woman that I was seeing was a social worker and we didn't focus on certain depression topics. It was, "How are you feeling today? Let's work on coping skills." And I feel at this point in my life that was the most effective for what I needed. Whereas, a couple of years back, I was seeing a psychologist who focused on cognitive behavioral therapy, which was something that helped me retrain a lot of my behaviors.

Don't feel like you have to be stuck with one medication or one doctor because there are options and you need to find what fits and helps you.
